black lead and bleaching pilot documentary arts council funded view more projects our latest project black lead and bleaching fantastic news !! having been lucky enough to receive some funding from the arts council over the summer for a pilot project to produce a series of drama, dance, rap and singing pieces based on research about the immediate vicinity of our home base, namely the magnificent lace market, we have now been further blessed with a remit to develop the project ... read more click here and be a part of our next project yes, offshoots (east midlands) c.i.c., the community arm of has received £42,500 from the heritage lottery fund (hlf) for an exciting project, black lead and bleaching, in nottingham’s historic lace market. led by volunteers from the local community, and a range of industry professionals, the project focuses on the origins of the lace market and its impact on the growth of nottingham as a city. the project starts on 1st september and will enable local young people to discover the origins and explore the history of the lace market and write, produce and perform in an original musical theatre show based on their research. they will also make authentic costumes and stage sets to make the show as professional as possible with the aim of staging it at a nottingham theatre. working with heritage professionals from the city, participants will gain a deeper insight into this part of their history, as well as teaching them valuable new communication skills to use as they develop their careers. esther coles star of bbc comedy drama series nurse will be on hand to mentor writing skills particularly character driven comedy parts. local rap legend scorzayzee, star of shane meadows’ mock/rockumentary ‘le donk and scor-zay-zee’ will provide inspiration for original raps that will give a unique take on the historical subject matter. nottingham born west end star molly- may gardiner will coach the dancers and the singing with local musician rob green. finally, ben welch a graduate of the city’s television workshop and creator of the comedy character mrs. green will mentor the acting. all of the workshops and rehearsals for the project will take place in own loftspace ‘the lofthouse’ which is actually situated in a 200 year old lace warehouse in the heart of the lace market. hide who are ? are tricia and ian gardiner graduates of textiles and fashion and an army of freelance professionals from film, fashion and performance industries. began in 2010 when tricia gardiner became increasingly disillusioned by the constraints to delivering an exciting, innovative curriculum in mainstream education. after 18 years experience of teaching in secondary and further education tricia's ethos of challenging young people by setting targets that include live performance and producing real life outcomes has driven the company from the outset. after staging a show in front of 1200 people at derby assembly rooms in 2008 which included the work of 250 young people in areas including singing, dance, rap, jazz, animation, film and a fashion show with 40 collections, whilst still teaching, tricia decided to go it alone. since then ian gardiner also left full time teaching to join the company. our first opportunity as a company was working with broadway cinema and derbyshire county council to stage diverse. an initiative to bring people together from a variety of cultural backgrounds from across derbyshire and nottinghamshire to write, perform in and produce content for a show performed over 2 nights at donut creative arts studios in chesterfield. that programme was the first of many, running for the last three years. we have since been involved in loads of projects with young people and community groups celebrating (amongst others) black history month, many heritage based projects and with lots of schools, always producing a spectacular end of project show, or, in the case of last years major project, a full length feature film, during the production of which we worked (with the broadway cinema) with over 170 young people in 8 different schools. we work with a range of practitioners that have lots of experience in film, fashion and performance industries. there are also opportunities for 16 year olds to experience residentials at activities centres through our work with the national citizen service. check out the film of our latest one here . are very proud that, up to this point having worked with approximately 700 young people, all of the projects that we have undertaken so far have been free to all participants. we work hard behind the scenes to bid for funding from a variety of sources and hope that we can always keep it that way. we are always looking for opportunities to get involved with new and exciting projects that happen around visual and creative arts. if that's something that you would like to get involved with get in touch now! we run creative activities in: music dance - performance music production dance - choreography film making acting photography fashion home projects about us community interest company in education -- practitioners blog contact
